7th July, 2009. 12:15 am. Granny Song!
inspirethoughts sent me
this song
about grandmothers, and it's just great! (This one's in Hindi...A, if you can get the Tamizh version, I'd be very grateful!
She posted the Telugu version in a comment on
this post .
I think every grandmother wants to be like that! We do like to enjoy life. My GD is certainly the light of my life, and I am consciously trying to remember that I will be living far away from her, and sternly telling myself NOT to be too attached to her.
But, if you look closely at her pudgy, dimpled little finger...you will find me wrapped around it!
We are trying to see if we can take Kavya/Biddles to Florida to see her great-grandparents!
And while looking at that, I chanced upon this video of one of my favourite songs:
The visuals are less than wonderful, but the song is really lovely...thought I must say I prefer the Hindi lyrics; to me, the Tamizh words are a little awkward. "oru pOrvaikkuL iru thookkam" doesn't scan well!
Current mood: sleepy!. Current music: this song.

I have a feeling I am making everything way too complicated. Must stop doing this. Must uncomplicate. It's really not this hard.

6th July, 2009. 3:18 pm. wet floors
wet floors
"angels can fly because they take themselves lightly"
humility is like walking on a wet floor
you very well know how fragile you really are. you have to take care of yourself. so you
slow down. you see other people, them too taking care not to slip or fall. it's a wet floor. "hello friend," eyes meet - compassionate, kind. shy . you are
embarassed to be seen in your moment of shed pride.
it's the greatest prayer of all.

6th July, 2009. 11:55 am. Mortality
Yesterday night in the car Kavya suddenly asked [in konkani] "Will we become grandmothers one day?", when we replied in the affirmative she asked "but will grandmothers die too?" To which Sneha very crossly said "You are only 6 now, so why are you worried about that!"
Then we went on to tell the usual stuff that it will not be now and years from now, and then at that time you go to heaven where her Ajja is now.
Turns out it seems she had asked one day about her grandma, since her grandpa died early this year, she is worried something will happen to her. To this she was told that her grandma is much younger and she need not worry about her.
So yesterday's question was a follow up to that.
Final question in the car. "Do we have to pray in heaven?" My answer was "Of course not!" :-)

6th July, 2009. 4:15 pm. Bastardy
saw an interesting doco this morning about Jack Charles, actor, cat burglar, 60 yrs+, aboriginal - one of the great things about being in Sydney is getting to see films that might not make it out of the country. I feel so lucky. Spent the rest of the day in the Paddo library and then tonight will see the Herzog film Land of Silence and Darkness. Tomorrow night we'll be trying out some IPAs at the taphouse in Darlinghurst.Had a nice wkend with friends - lamb done in a Weber (made in USA!) kettle bbq. Took the late night bus home - it stops at all the train stations and then drops us within walking distance of our house. I love that.
Wednesday I'll see dutch films at the Art Gallery.
I framed some of my raven cards, one frame worked better than the other. In the second frame one of the cards slipped down. I'm happy with the horizontal framed set. sort of dieter roth multiples! (in my dreams)
The Glebe library is having an art show, so will probably go look at that tomorrow.

6th July, 2009. 10:09 am. What a final!
No tears from Roger Federer!
Federer was simply unable to break a single one of Roddicks servers.... except the last one. Jeez what a last set 16-14!
I also liked the post match talks!
Roddick: "Sorry Pete, I tried to hold him off." [to Pete Sampras who had come to watch his record of 14 grand slams being broken.]
Federer: "It feels great but you know, Roddick don't be too upset, I was in your shoes last year, I know how you feel". [Trying to console Roddick] Roddick: "But you won 5 times!" [smart retort from a crestfallen Roddick]
